The Client

Energy & Utility Skills is an employer-led membership organisation that helps to ensure the gas, power, waste management and water industries have the skills they need – now and in the future.

It provides membership, assurance and skills solutions to help employers attract, develop and retain a sustainable, skilled workforce to ensure the seamless delivery of essential services to 65 million people each day and to UK Industry.

Its UK-wide membership is comprised of the major infrastructure companies within water, power, gas and waste management and their top tiers of delivery partners. As the specialist skills and assurance body for the energy and utilities sector, Energy & Utility Skills supports its membership through its strategic partnerships and assurance and training services. It operates both on a strategic partner level for its members influencing policy through governments, regulators and other senior stakeholders, delivering industry-wide initiatives and providing vital services to its members.

The Brief

We have had the pleasure of working with Energy & Utility Skills for nearly five years. Through our time, we have advised and supported the rationalisation of its branding and communication channels, supported its ongoing PR programme, developed service campaigns and its overall positioning.

Most recently, we are supporting the development of a PR strategy for the organisation and its leadership position within the UK national and trade media, with the aim of building its reputation with core stakeholders and its membership body.

The Deliverables

Working closely with the Head of Communications & Corporate Affairs and the Marketing team, we have successfully:
  • Supported the PR programme and developed service campaigns to support business objectives

  • Led a PR strategy workshop with the CEO and Board, developing ideas, positioning and content

  • In partnership, developed a renewed PR strategy as the organisation continues to grow its membership, services and influence

  • Produced high-quality news articles, Q&A documents and press releases on key news events and industry partnership initiatives


In the year that I have worked with Middleton Davies, they have been very knowledgeable and responsive to our requirements. They are very professional and helped us to run a strategy workshop which included the Chair of the Board and the Chief Executive.
